Survey: Most economical full size 9mm? >>

I shot a KBI-FEG Hi-power clone today and was rather impressed with it. I just thought it would be fun to list some of our favorite full-size (cheap) 9mm popguns!

So, let's list some!

I had horrible service out of an FEG Hi-Power. Hope you have better luck.

The CZ will be mentioned several times on this thread, always a good choice. I would mention the Ruger P95 also.

There may be other 9mm pistols that are cheaper in price but non of them come close to CZs in the bang for the buck category. I like my CZ 75B 9mm as much as any other pistol I have owned. This includes SIGs, HKs and Glocks. It isn't as finely finished as the other big names but the quality and durability is as good as, if not better than any of them.

The accuracy is also absolutely top notch on every CZ I have shot. Again, there are cheaper guns, but none with the quality and customer service that comes with the CZ name.

Hands down, it's the CZ. I definetly got more than I paid for when I purchased my Turkish military CZ for $299.

No brainer for me: CZ75B

I also had a P94 Ruger that was reliable, but could not even come close to the CZ for accuracy at 15-20 yards.

My experience leaves me with four choices. 1) Ruger P89, 2)CZ75B, 3) Arcus 94, and 4) FEG. Best bang for the buck has to be the Ruger P89, I have owned its predecessor a P85MKII for years and never had a bobble. You should be able to pick one up for under $300.

Runner up, CZ75B. Why? I haven't owned one as long as the P85MKII but the two I own are excellent. The CZ75B gives you the option of an excellent 22 conversion unit. I like the CZ75B with its conversion unit the best of any 22 semiautomatic pistol I have owned or shot.

Bronze metal goes my Arcus 94 it is a good solid performer with good metal in it. Its negative is small sights.

Runner up to these pistols is my FEG. I paid $179 for it years ago and it is a good pistol. Mine has descent sights and no handgun feels better in my hand than a Browning High-Power (FEG is a BHP clone). Negative with the older FEG is the metal is softer. This comes from my Gunsmith after he did the trigger job on my FEG.

Richard

These other pistols must be mighty good to be a better value than a $199 High Power (the FEG). Note FEG makes several models. The PJK-9HP is the "true" HP clone.

I tried the Ruger P-95--too fat and boxy for my hand (may fit you better).

Have not tried CZ. All reports are great, but it costs $100-$200 more than the FEG. Probably worth it, but if budget matters...

The FEG gives you the feel, accuracy and reliability of the classic for $200. Hard to beat that. Most (?) parts are compatible, too. I guess there are some bad ones out there, but mine's been a joy.

Soft metal? There's been some controversy on that. Mine's holding up nicely. There's an article in one of the recent gunzines about modifying one. The 'smith in that article made no mentions of soft metal, and kept all the internal parts. Dunno.

You can't beat either a Browning Hi-Power or a CZ 75, but for cheap, I just got a Star model B, basically a 1911 Gov't in 9mm, $149. from AIM surplus, (they may be sold out) CDNN investments has them for $159, mags $14.95. In my opinion, Star guns are good.

I agree with the HS2000. I have between 400 and 500 rounds through mine and it just keeps getting better and better! :D
