Surplus Ammo Question

Generic Windex. Not the expensive stuff, the cheap knockoffs. I pour an inch or so into a plastic tub (like a butter tub), heat for a bit in the microwave, pull the bolt from the Mosin, muzzle down in the solution and drag a patch up and down, drawing the solution through the barrel. Pour a bit down the breach, use the patch to wide down, then patches to dry and light oil.

I don't own a mosin personally but my brother takes cheap windex to the range with him and when hes done sprays down the bore and chamber getting it nice and wet and runs a bore snake through it, repeats this a couple times and cleans like any other gun when he gets home. After a few years and a lot of shooting his bore still looks new.
Dunno much about Ballistol...but I cotton flannel patch out my bores {whether shooting corrosive/non-corrorsive ammo} with Simple Green solution, or a 1/3 mixture of: Simple Green, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol --- brush out the bore with your favorite copper cleaner --- flush out the copper cleaner with Hoppes #9 patches, dry patch out; then oil down.

Ballistol was made to clean out corrosive residue. It is water based. Though I still use water. I spray cheap ammonia down the chamber, and bore. Let it soak till I get home. I then spray some more, and wait a few minutes. I pour hot, as in hot from the tap hot water to flush it out with. Rinse one more time. I then run a few dry patches. Then clean like normal. The ammonia helps to get the copper fouling out as well. Lots of blue liquid, will come out of the barrel.
