surplus ammo for Rem PSS?

I've had my Remington PSS for almost six months. I've been shooting military surplus ammo called South African. This is the only brand of ammo I've been using, and I shot about couple hundred rounds. Recently, I've been having problem locking the bullet into the chamber, and the extractor would shave off a chip of the brass each time.

I want to try another brand of military surplus ammo. Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I can't afford to play with match ammo.

I strongly recommend Hirtenberger ammo. Shoots clean and straight.

Paid $159.00 for case of a 1,000; forgot where. Due a web search and you'll find it (AIM maybe?!). Comes in a wooden crate w/ 5 200 round sealed "batttle Packs".

I am going to be the spoiler.

Why on earth would you want to shoot mil surplus through a PSS? I cost would be the most obvious reason. Get a reloader and start getting the accuracy you should be getting out of that gun for about the same price as that surplus stuff.

El Rojo beat me to it. Granted, I have not found a real match load that would really rival the cost of the cheapest surplus, but darn close. You should be ablt to get within $50 per 1000 rounds of the surplus cost, but the accuracy will be much higher.

Ditto from El Rojo. I have a friend that bought a .308 700P and went to the range with surplus ammo and was mad because his groups weren't as good as mine with Federal Gold Medal Match. I kept telling him to shoot match ammo but he just didn't seem to get it for some reason. If you want to get the most out of that rifle get a reloader and reload some good match grade ammo. It's very easy and rather cheap in the long run. Also another benifit is that it's actually very fun! Putting together a reloading bench can be as cheap as about $99 for a Lee, which is kind of cheaply made but works, to a RCBS Rock Chucker Kit , which runs about $230 but is a very good set and about all you'll ever need. But if you want a good surplus ammo get either the Hirtenberger or the IMI that's floating around. Both have shot pretty well. Good luck

Federal Gold Match 168gr

Is all I shoot thru my PSS. Granted, I don't yet have a press, so when I get one that will change. But, I have shot many 1 hole 3 shot groups at 100 yds with the Federal Ammo. I've tried many other brands, and they don't even come close. I thought the Winchester Ballistic Tip would shoot real well, but for some reason my groups were about 3" at 100 yds. I don't know if I got a bad lot, or if my rifle just doesn't like that coating they put on their bullets. In any case, I doubt I'll buy that stuff again.
