Does anyone have experience with surplus 50 bmg ammo? I found some for around $1.70 a round and was wondering what I should worry about for plinking sake not target

That is a good price for surplus. Clean well afterward, not all military primers are "non-corrosive" no matter what the seller says.

Just make sure its not as old as the gun it was made for. We came across a bunch that had cracked casings! I presume it was ancient un-linked M2 rounds. Couldn't tell ya if we caught them all, but we never had any issues at the range...... But just make sure you give em a quick looking over n clean well when done.

I got some a while back from MidwayUSA for about that price. Came in 2 sealed cans inside a wood crate. The 120 rounds are corrosive. Havn't used mine yet.

That's a great price for 50 bmg congrats :) The primer was non corrosive when it was new. It has aged so always clean the rifle real good just in case.

Who makes it?

If it's American and pre '52 it's corrosive so clean accordingly.

If it's foreign just assume it's corrosive.
