Due to recent events, I plan to stockpile essentials including 12 Gauge, 9mm and 30-06 ammo. Can anyone give opinions on surplus 30-06 ammo like the Yugo and Talon offered on Ammoman.com? I know to stay away from the Russian stuff and the non-corrosive stuff. Any other info is greatly appreciated.

im not sure about that talon stuff. myself, i wouldnt trust the yugo stuff. i always go with the lake city .30 cal. never had a nonfire or squib with. God bless the USA.

pc. check www.odcmp.org for the lake city. good deals.

I have heard good reports on the Talon Ammo. I fired only a very limited amount of the Talon and it worked fine.
Not sure about the Yugo. It's been around for a while now but can't remember hearing alot of reports back on it. It's probably OK.
I myself shoot USGI M2 Ball and M72 Match ammo along with Greek made M2 ball. Not to mention reloads are my favorite.

What rifle are you shooting 30-06 from? My experience with my Garands put Greek M2 ball most accurate, then USGI M2 ball, then Talon. Talon's group were about twice that of Greek (1.5" rahter than 0.75" at 50 yards). Functioning with all was excellent. I have not seen the Greek ammo in a while.

A local dealer had trouble with a batch of Yugoslavian 30-06. First batch ok, 2nd batch had numerous duds. The way I look at it, which weapon did the Yugoslavians use 30-06 in?

I have used the American Eagle ammo with 150 gr (or was it 147?) FMJ but it costs more, maybe $8/20. PMC has an M2-equivalent load, but I have not tried it.

Good luck, Lee

I have had good luck with the Talon remanfactured ball. Been through nearly a thousand round crate of the stuff with no problems to date. Shoots about 2-1/2 MOA out of my plain jane M-1 Garand. Brass looks a little scruffy, but is all Lake City and polishes up just fine for reloading your own.

PMC makes a M2 clone loading. I've had very good experiences with this stuff. Everything felt consistent and cycled well.

I've experienced some erratic loads in that Talon crap. Several were failures to eject and one felt like a squib load, though no bullet was lodged in the barrel (luckily).
