Surface rust on barrel

I have a savage 10fp that I sold to a friend 13 years ago and just bought it back last week. He never fired it but had it stored in an attic. There was no sign of corrosion but if you run a white cloth over the barrel there is a tiny bit of rust on the cloth. Very faint and not visible on the barrel. Any thoughts on how to treat it?

Just use a clean oily rag, and rub until the rust is gone.
Keep turning the rag and only use clean areas.
Nothing harsher is needed.

Strong Arm

There is a product that I started using about five years ago. It's called Strong Arm. What I like about it besides cleaning off rust, is it's lasting protection on preventing rust to come back. For long term as well as short term storage, I use it sparinly as a little goes a long way. There are a lot of equally good products and this is one of the best. It won't hurt your stock. ... ;)

For leather, I use a product called Black Rock.

Be Safe !!!

Coat the barrel with a good rust preventive and store it in a dry place.

The fact that the barrel slightly discolors a white cloth isn't necessarily evidence of a problem. I've seen that happen in blued guns with no rust at all.
