Surefire 6p questions

So I am pretty sure that I want to order a surefire 6p, but the question is whether or not i want the LED version or the standard version. In all honesty the LED version seems to be much better in all aspects, higher lumens, longer runtime etc... My only concern with the LED version is what happens when the bulb burns out? It dosnt look like surefire produces spare LED bulbs. Or is that just the thing, do LED bulbs not burn out? Also when I order this flashlight I plan on getting a color filter for it. I know red impairs your night vision the least, but what is the befit of a blue filter? Also does anyone know of a good brand that makes a pressure switch end cap for this flashlight to attach to a gun? Again any advice as to which version (LED or Regular) is better would be appreciated, or if there is even a better flashlight in the same price range. Thanks in advance.
 
I own a 6P, and I have all of the toys.

'Bulb' vs. LED is one of those apples-and-oranges debates.

First, I have all of the bulbs, that being standard, P-60 (blue ring) and the P-61 (purple ring).

All serve a function, obviously all have various stages of intense brightness, and the accompanying wear on the batteries.

I just got the P-61, and I'm still in the investigative phase and my first set of batteries. I went outside one night in total darkness and lit up the world.

I also own the KL3 LED replacement head. Nothing to sneeze at for performance. Less heat in constant use. Increased run time.

However, the LED head is very big and clumsy. Yes, I can get it easily into a leather jacket, but I feel as if I smuggling bananas.

I have decided to buy batteries by the 12-pack case on-line to save money, and I like the brighter bulbs. YMMV.
 
LEDs are not bulbs but a solid state device. They have a average life span of 50,000 to 100,000 hours. They are much more durable than light bulbs. Buy the 6P then get a 3 watt Cree LED replacement setup from the site below. The CREE LEDs are much brighter than previous LEDs. The 3 watt units run about 120 to 160 lumen's and have a run time of 2 hours or better. I have the 3 watt units in my 6P and G2, very bright white light and well focused beam.:D

The red lens is to help preserve your night vision. If you look at something at night with a white light it takes an average of 45 minutes or more to get your night vision back. Red light lets you see what you want without destroying your night vision. I'm an amateur astronomer and we use red lights at night to read star charts. Then we can look thru our telescopes, without waiting for an hour or more for our night vision to settle down, to find the objects in the eyepiece.
 
I have a 6P with a KL3 head too----works pretty good--------but if I were buying a new one I would get the NEW LED 6P----which can be seen on the Surefire site----pretty sure you can order directly from them or they should be on dealers shelves soon.

Saw one up for auction on Ebay too already.

An LED (Light Emitting Diode), will last you a lifetime, no need to worry about the diode running out because it has no filament or gas to use up, just electricity - which means batteries, lots and lots of batteries.
