Suppressor interchangability

Is it legal or safe to change a suppressor from one weapon to another.
Not thinking crazy stuff. Just would want to get one in 9mm and want to know if I could put the same one on a 92 and another carbine.
I know I would have to thread the barrels and what-not. But are they only made to run at a certain velocity?
Will the ATF let me do this?

Thanks,

The questions that needs to be asked is whether you can legally suppress a particular carbine. OR, whether the same mechanism that fastens the suppressor to the Beretta 92 can be installed on the carbine. The answer to question one is yes(pre ban) and no (post ban). Answer to question two is no. The mechanism used to fasten the suppressor to the 92 is unique and cannot be used in any other weapon. And in order to attain maximum effectiveness, suppressors are gun specific.
