Suppose this isn't decided before Jan. 20

What happens then? The Constitution doesn't address the issue. The democrats are talking about a hand-recount. According to this article, they have that right. That could take a long time. Me, I'd trust computers over hand counting.

So when Clinton leaves office, and this thing is still in the courts, who's the president? I would presume it's whatever politician that would take the office if both the president and vice-president die or are otherwise removed from office. Isn't that the speaker of the house?

Could this be the national emergency that so many have said would be created so Clinton can remain in power?

An interesting question, but it may be moot. The electoral college meets on December 18th. Are they required to vote on that day? I have no idea what impact any court challenges may have on the electoral college.

This morning's NPR radio news was that GWB maintains a slight lead in the Florida recount, but Gore is thrreatening other legal actions.

Yes but suppose Florida hasn't certified their ballots by December 18th? What then?

On a related note, apperently once the electoral ballots are delivered to the Senate, the president of the Senate (Gore) has to read them aloud to both houses and anounce the results. I will be watching C-SPAN for that if Bush takes it.

That's a happy thought. Hope and pray that it comes to pass.
