I just read up on this rifle yesterday, looked at some pics. Looks and sounds really good.

I like the full length stock and ten rnd mag.
I think this rifle simply looks great. And the Old Lady says I can hang it in the living room if I get the one with inlay designs.

Any one have a Super VEPR?

the supers should be available some time this month

have you poked about: http://www.kirov.ru/~admir/vepsan.htm http://club.guns.ru/eng/vepr.html

when i first saw the super vepr i was drooling,
then i found out that it was going to be awhile ( this was back in the summer of 99) so i bought a vepr standard.
i really like it and its next upgrade will be a Kobra reddot.

the .223 Pioneer looks cool to: http://www.kirov.ru/~admir/veppan.htm

Shin-Tao, I was going to get one, until Robarm changed they're price on me. The dealer cost on them now is $699 (I was told $449). I that that was too high for a Kalashnikow, even though I'm enamored with them. I decided if I was going to pay close to $800, I would go all out and get an M14. Just a thought. BTW, they are available now.

Considering that the regular vepr is running 650 to 700 dollars retail, i can't see how the Super could ever be priced at only $100 more than the less sophisticated Vepr.

Perhaps E.Y. Pshenichnikov at Molot was stringing a line to ZDF

The Super has more wood, a weaver mount, a non AK safety (requiring a diferent reciever), a different mag catch, different sights (F & R) & a different gas tube & a different top cover. From the pictures it looks like the Super has a fluted barrel too.

IMHO the Vepr Standard is a good deal at 650-700 bucks
The fact that the standard mounts russian side plate optics is a plus!

hello kobra redot for $135!

There have been import issues with these. Hence the price hike. Still - IMO, it IS the best .308 AK you can buy. Alex (of robarm) claims they can challenge an M1 in the area of accuracy.

dZ, the prices I stated were true. The regular Vepr rifle will no longer be offered by Robinson Armament (Robarm). The Vepr carbine is stil available. The regular Vepr's dealer cost was $449, which would've cost me $500 (my dealer charges my 10% mark-up...that's it). When the Super Vepr went to $699, I bailed and went for the M1A. I think that the receiver is the same, but a gadget has been added to work the safety. mag catch is the same, gas tube is longer than the standard Vepr, no weaver mount, just the standard Kalashnikov side rail (Robarm is coming out with a Picatinny rail soon), and yes, it does have a fluted barrel...two inches longer than the standard Vepr rifle. How's that for a run-on sentence? Yes, Alex says it will shoot with the M1A. I really don't doubt him. However, I wanted the M1A from the start, and was only considering the Super Vepr because I thought I could get it for $500. I'm glad I got what I wanted, but I'm sure the Super Vepr is a fine rifle.

looks a lot like a planet of the apes gun...

(actually that was an m-1 carbine ina metal case painted to look like wood)

but it is sorta.. nifty.

i have one. very interesting rifle. with the ak action you would never know you are shooting a .308, the 10rde mags are a little pricey though. however the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. just debating on which scope i want to mount on it.

Ya, know. The regular 'ol VEPR isn't too shabby either...Maybe I'll just get one of those.

Anyone have a "plain" VEPR?

(Yeah, she'll let me let me hang it on the wall. She's Arab. They always have rifles on the wall.)

i had the russian .308 out to the range today to sight in the POS2 scope

by the end of the session i was hitting a tea saucer sized area on the bullseye at 100 yards in fairly rapid fire.

1 minute of blue helmet

besides their outlooking, do they (super vepr and standard vepr) use the same bolt, bolt carier, action rod and spring? it seems they use the same mags.

Vince Weng: No their operation parts are not interchangeable...at least they're not supposed to be.

WHERE TO BUY: Find a dealer that will charge only about 10% "dealer markup" to a distributor's price, then go to www.robarm.com and get the contact info for your dealer. Robinson charges $699 dealer cost for the Super Vepr. The original Vepr was $449, but you can only get the Vepr carbines (also $449) and Super Veprs now.
