Super Redhawk Owners

Hey guys I am curious, I had a S&W .460 XVR and shot it very well but after time I realized it was way too big for where I live and it was time to downsize. I purchased a super redhawk in .44 mag. What I am wondering is how accurate are yours? I hand load all my own ammunition and at 25 yards I was able to put 3 rounds touching each other, I would like to be able to put 3 rounds in a 2in group at 50 yards is that possible? Mine is a 9.5in barrel btw. And for those of you that will say I didnt shoot that kind of a group at 25 heres a picture :)

I have shot real tight groups with reloads from my redhawk.. I just sold it back to my brother, took that money and bought a super redhawk with the long barrel too.. I have yet to shoot it.. I can say, I have dropped several deer with the 44 redhawk and the farthest one was 72 yards... The kill zone for me on a deer is a 10 inch circle.. I also have the 41 redhawk and find my groups even tighter.. dont know why??? I love the 41Mag. it can be loaded down to a 357 and up to a 44 all with 20% less recoil.. But Yes, you should be able to get the groups you want at 50 yards with your 44 super redhawk..

I get exceptional results with cast bullets of 240 and 255gr, using 2400 powder. Since you reload, you can experiment with this combo. I have managed 2-3" groups using a rest with 2400 and cast bullets and my barrel is 2 inches less than yours. I find accuracy diminishes when I get close to max published loads.

yep, did it

I have that exact same gun and put my shoots in 2" circle at 50yds, But I used a rest and a scope.

+1

Fairly easy with my SRH, but it is more of a challenge free hand.

I would agree, my father and both my brothers have the same gun and shoot tight groups at 50 yards. Me on the other hand went with the 480 ruger and get tight groups at 100 yards. All with handloads.

NOT quite as good as yours,But can stay in 6'' at 100yds,off a rest
Have taken Deer & hog outside 100yds a few times.
Mines a 454, 7.5 with 2x8x20 scope its a little harder to control the recoil.

Also have a SBH 44MAG 10.5 that shoots much better but thats not the question.

I have my SRH sighted dead on at 100 yards.

This pic has two 5-shot groups fired at 100 yards from a rest. I got a flyer on the first round of each group, but the 10 ring is 3" in diameter. The bullets were 300gr XTP's over a stout load of H110.

This is another pic, only difference is I am using 240gr XTP's. Again, the orange circle is 3" diamter.

I have shot minute of venison (9" paper plate) standing with iron sights at 100 yards many times, don't usually shoot it as close as 25 yards or from a rest. It's fun to get some of the old fruit at the grocery store that's been packaged for clearance and shoot apples, oranges, grapefruits and such at unknown distances (just throw them out there, shoot 'em where they land) for practice.

For where I hunt here in MN if I can see 75 yards I'm really lucky. I figure if I can group them well at 50 I should be set. Anything over 75 if I happen to be able to see that far I'll break out the .308 :D I am very interested in doing some hog hunting this year, any of you guys ever used your .44 for that? whats a good bullet for them? I hand load all my own rounds

Really good shooting:)

One question I have,and it's not a criticism,but why 5 shot groups out of a 6 shot revolver?
I know most gun mags test that way ,too, but never understood why.

For range testing of a variety of loads/load development 5 rnd strings line up w/the traditional 50rnd range cartridge box and easier to segragate/track ~ less confusion. After a favorite load is determined then its no longer an issue and 6shot groups are easily manageable ~ for me anyway.

No special reason for the 5-shot groups. I shoot 5-shot groups, because my reloads are loaded in one of those 50-round MTM boxes, so 5 shots x 10 reps.

I have had 2 Super RedHawks in 44 Magnum, and currently have 2 in 480 Ruger. All have been equipped with a 30MM UltraDot and fired off sandbags at the range. All will shoot around a 2" groups at 50 yards off sandbags with my reloads. The only 44 Magnum loads I ever fired were 310 Lee HammerHeads over a stiff dose of H110. It is very possible that one could get better groups using a quality scope with some magnification. With the UltraDot you need to be able to center the dot inside a circle for precision accuracy.

The 480's like 355 Laser Cast Wide Flatnose Gas Check bullets, and my 400 grain Lee Wide Flat Nose well.

Bottom Line no one seem to have any issues about the accuracy of a Super RedHawk. I guess like anything mechanical you could get a lemon. Normally they drive tacks if the operator can shoot.

I have a 9 1/2" SRH that Mag-Na-Port turned into an 11 1/2" barrel with the addition of their brake. Ended up being a bit much for offhand shooting so I mounted a Harris bipod on it and Leupold 2.5 to 8X scope. Very accurate!! If you can shoot a group like that at 25 yards, you should have no problem at 50. Smithy.

I had a SRH in 454 that I mostly shot 45LC loaded with the 250gr XTP. with the HD110. I had it scoped and sighted at 100yds. While deer hunting 3yrs ago I had a group of 8 hogs headed for my feeder, 2 of the large black ones, a spotted sow and 5-6 piglets, Decided on the sow and cut loose on her at about 50yds, the XTP penetrated her and a piglet, so I got 2 for 1 shot.

My and my son's 480 SHR are about 1 inch guns at 50yrds with open sights... from a rest.

Free handing they are about 2-3 inch guns

At 50 yards, bench rested I can put 6 rounds inside a pie plate using semi-wadcutter in my SHR with a 7inch barrel
