Super hot 22LR FYI

I bought a brick of Aguila Super Maximum Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 30 Grain Plated Lead Round Nose. It is the hottest 22 LR I have ever shot. It gives clean one shot kills on squirrels and rabbits. I don't know if the 204 ft lbs is correct but out preforms Remington and Winchester high velocity 22 LR. It is Eley primed and gives very good accuracy out to 100 yds, a 2" pattern.

Technical Information

Muzzle Velocity:1750 fps
Muzzle Energy:204 ft lbs

Wow, that's some good velocity on a 22. I never tried that brand, I stuck with CCI Stingers...

However, I don't know of any 22 round that is NOT one shot kill on squirrels and rabbits.;)

Velocity is good but I'll stick with the CCI Velocitors over any of the lightweight hyper velocity stuff. The Velocitors well designed, 40gr HP moving at 1430fps moves the 22lr into another class. Most .22 rifles have mediocre at best accuracy when shooting hyper vel. stuff with lightweight bullets. The Velocitor is generally more accurate and has definitely has more thump on coon sized critters than either the Aguila or the CCI Stinger.

^^^^^Yeah, that.

Velocitors are good ammo. High(er) velocity is all good and fine, but if the bullet is too light then there isn't much left when it slows down a bit.

And light bullets don't tend to retain velocity well at longer ranges.

Heck, for that matter I don't have trouble making one shot kills on squirrels and rabbits using mini-mag ammo, or for that matter, subsonic ammo and/or shorts on squirrels.

Here is a link showing a ballistic test:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO_TLCXNCro

Note that the Quick Shok travels less than 1/2 the way thru the test medium and seperated into 3 even pieces. The Stinger went in about 3/4 the way with severe fragmentation and a nice would channel. The Mini-mag and the Velocitor both fully pentrated but it doesn't appear that the Mini-mag penetrated the wood like the Velocitor. I also ran some balistic test on the PC today for the fun of it and the Velocitor carries more speed and energy at 100 yards than the Stinger. Did I mention that the Velocitor has the best designed bullet available in a .22LR? Think I might of...... It seems this test was done at short range and I'd like to see the performance tested at 50 yards.
