How you feel the split receiver is inferior???
On Benelli's
I have hunted with my SBE I (H&K model) going on 10 years now. It has been on countless hunts here, in other states, as well as Alberta, and Manitoba.
It has been nothing but reliable in all kinds of conditions from 100 degree heat to below zero goose hunts.
The SBEII I bought two years ago, and the Cordoba I bought at the same time, are just as reliable.
The M2 and M1 20ga my wifes shoots, have been reliable as well.
The SBEI/II can fire 2 3/4. 3" and 3.5" shells, and have split receivers which makes cleaning a snap.
The M1/M2 can fire 2 3/4 and 3" shells, and have a solid receiver.
It depends on what the owner wants.
Neither design is in any shape, form, or fashion, inferior.
