Super .22 rifle???

My son and I are AVID .22 fans. He has the new Bennelli Trailside. I have an S&W model 41 and an H&K 270 rifle in .22 LR. We have had several superb Ruger .22 pistols. We both love our several Walther TPHs too. We are thus very fond of the best we can find.

We are very enthusiastic about the Quick-Shock .22 cartridge as we have found it to equal the accuracy of most match ammo and to be usually equal to or most accurate in every pistol and rifle tested. It is also unbelievably powerful, fast, and effective!!!

Now my son would like a VERY accurate .22 semi-auto rifle. He would like it tuned from the manufacturer -- for Quick-Shocks if possible. The problem is he would like an option other-than the usual Ruger 10-22 match rifle selection from Clark, Jarrett, etc.

Any ideas???? Experiences???

I dont know if they are still being made but Heckler and Koch made a very nice 22 rifle.......you might search to see if you can locate their web site...fubsy.

The HK 270 is no longer imported in the US. I understand the SL7 (.308) was made until just recently for Euro consumption. I do not know if the 270 was the same.

I have rarely seen either the 270 or 300 (.22WMR) at shows or even in GunList either.

Good luck

Yes, as I mentioned, I do have one of the HK 270s, which I've owned for many years. I've only seen one other and heard of a third in all these years. They are in fact rare here -- but a fine rifle.

My son has used the internet, HK resellers and gun show searchs by other dealers to try and find one for several years. What he really wants is something even more accurate.

Is that SIG Trailside or Benelli MP-90/95?

Well, from Ruger, you could get their 10/22T target model or you can buy a regular 10/22 and built a tack driver yourself. Marlin has their 7000T. Don't know how they would do with Quick-Shock as I've never used that ammo.

Or you could try bolt action repeaters from Anschutz which are some of the most accurate.

How about the new Kimber 22's? They are supposed to be very accurate. They are a clean sheet redesign from the old 82.

I'll second that Kimber recommendation. I have a new Kimber .22 Hunter Silhouette (HS). It is as accurate as my target .22's (Remington, H&R, Brno, Springfield). From a rest, I can easily shoot .3 inch groups at 50 yards with non-target grade ammo. Necco wafers (nickel sized) at 100 yards are no problem. This is the most accurate and pretty .22 I have. The 24" fluted medium weight barrel balances perfectly for off hand.

He has the Sig Trailside, which is as accurate as my Smith and Wesson model 41. I had forgotten about the Kimber. I will see if I can find them on the Web and get the data to him. He is not interested in the Ruger target 10-22... just doesn't like them for some reason.

As I mentioned... He is interested in a semi-automatic .22!

The Kimbers are beautiful and the accuracy sounds WONDERFUL!

But like the rest of us. He is looking for just that special .22, traditional looking, super accurate, semi-auto rifle.

Thanks folks for all the feedback. Any other ideas?????

From the paper specs, the new Thompson Center semi-auto might be worth looking at. However, with all the delays in production I'm stating to wonder if they are machining this rifle from unobtanium.

I just bought a CZ 452...still enduring the 10 day wait here in Cali...

It's a bolt action , comes with a 5 round magazine, but you can get 10 rounders for them. These are pretty well respected for their accuracy, and you can't get much more traditional with the Mauser style action. It's grooved for scope mounts...

I'll post a full report when I get it and shoot it from the bench next weekend.

I got mine for 299...but I see poeple in other parts of the US getting them from 270-280

Sounds GREAT! I look forward to your after-shooting report!

Any ideas on a semi-auto tack-driver... other than the Ruger 10-22?????
