Hello all,

I have a super 14 contender , two screw forend, and just bought a super 16. haven't received it yet. also bought 21" tapered carbine barrel. My question, is, will my walnut forend fit all three of these barrels with no problems? thanks to all.

Carbine barrels use a different spacing
Not too sure on this as I do not remember every having a problems and I have the same set-up. Will have to check my barrels but fairly sure you should be okay. I am to understand that you are talking about the G2's and not the Contender and a round barrel. Right?

Will check and get back to you.. ;)

Super 16 is different as well. My Super 14 forend won't fit my Super 16 .45-70 barrel and I had to buy a Super 16 forend. Spacing is about a half-inch longer on the 16 than on 14. Don't know carbines.

super 14 vs carbine

Guess I can just drill a second hole, .5 in farther down and plug orig hole. I have a custom forend made by Highplainsgunstocks and like it a lot. It is 13.5 in long, rather wide for target type shooting and I hate to buy another just for this .5 in matter. thanks to all.

21" carbine barrel

does anyone know when TC Contender went to using 2 screws on carbine barrels? older barrels were single screw. thx to all. just trying to determine age of my older barrel.

The oldest carbine barrel that I have is at 21" and has two screws. I show that I bought this in 1990. I don't have a history of anything older than this. I have seen older generations but have not paid that much attention.

I think this is still on the subject. Has anyone ever cut a second dovetail in barrel of older contender, to allow a second mounting screw? surely that would not be a big deal to a machine shop? I will check that out and post results. thanks again to all for their input.

A while back I bought an unfinished stock and forend for my contender, to use a 3030 rifle barrel I got at a gun show. The forend hole was in the wrong place so I just drilled it in the correct place, This is a one screw rifle barrel 21". I just stained a dowel of the right diameter and glued it in and finished sanding and oiling the forend. As stated above; it's a lot easier to drill a hole in wood than to dovetail a barrel.

It's easier and cheaper to just drill and tap for the screw and bypass the dovetail completely.
Not to mention that the anchors can come loose under severe recoil. One of mine did. Had to put it back in and beat hell out of the barrel with brass to resecure it. So far, it's held.

Yeap, those little top hats are a pain. Can't tell you how many 14" barrels I've bought that are missing one of them. Never had a problem getting T/C to send me one for free but with the new ownership, hard to say.

drill and tap for 2nd screw

Okiecruffler, do you mean drill and tap the bottom of the barrel? How thick is barrel material at this point? Have to just drill and tap a few screw threads into barrel, I guess. Good idea. thanks to all you guys. (used to live in Durant, OK. Now in Ga. I miss Oklahoma)
