Suggestions for first 1911

Hello,

Looking for my first 1911 style pistol and thought most of you could be of some help. I will be using this as a home defense and range gun. I know I also want a doublestack magazines in .45. Does anyone currently make a 1911 with an accessory rail?
For the most part I've been looking at the Kimber Gold Match and Para Ordanance P14. I've also looked at the Kimber's Polymer doublestack but have not heard much about this gun on the boards. Suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks

Para, Springfield Armory Widebody, or an STI or Wilson KZ45. Accessory rails? Get a Glock or an HK, not aware of any on a 1911.

If you make a Springfield "Loaded" 1911A1 your first 1911, you will also be making your last 1911 purchase. It's got all the goodies that the more expensive guns have and it's a reliable, accurate pistol with great looks.

And it costs about 4-500 less than the big boys.

Mine shoots groups that are tighter than I shoot with any other pistol.

Already have an HK USP 40, and love the rail system. I know Mark Morris makes an Combat Entry Gun that uses an accessory rail. The gun itself is built off of an STI frame. STI has a pistol called the Edge that is almost like the CEG without the rail. Massad Ayoob did an article on the Edge in Handgunner magazine and said it could benefit from an accessory rail. Could a custom put one on? Anyone with any time with a STI Edge? Thanks

I'd say look at the SA Loaded, you can't beat it for the money spent. I have the V12 Loaded and I love it :)

Happy Shooting :)

I would say if you want a high cap, get the Para LIMITED or the kimber, they both have all the custom options. for single stack, go kimber.

If you want a 1911, get a 1911. If you want a hi-tech, hicap Rambo gun, get an HK or Glock.

I would ditch the idea of an accessory rail and look at a ParaOrdnance.

Is Kimber's only hicap the Polymer model? I don't care much for the Springfields but do like the Wilson's, Para's Limited, and STI Edge. So what do you guys think STI, Wilson, or Para???

If you want a high cap 1911 for the fat grip, go with a Para P-14 Limited. However, if you want a high cap 1911 for the extra rounds, go with the Wilson Combat KZ-45. From first impressions, it kicks ass. Overall fit and finish is unsurpassed. I'll find out the accuracy tonight. So sometime tomorrow, I'll post a range report.

Due to the design, the KZ-45's grip is actually thinner then standard 1911's. 10+1 and lightweight makes it an awesome carry gun.

If you MUST have the accessory rail, consider the HK Tactical. Otherwise, I suggest the SA limited or the Para P-14. You can supposedly still get two new high cap mags from Para if you buy the P-14 new and send in the coupon. Otherwise, you're stuck with ten rounders. Not bad, but not 14 shots either.
