Suggestions For A New Field Gun

Now that I've put a scope on my super blackhawk I feel the need for a revolver thats a little easier to carry around for off season scouting and such.I'm thinking double action. I like that new srh alaskan but not sure I need that much gun. It sure is cool looking though. How does recoil compare to .44 mag if I were to shoot 45's insted of 454? Or any other revolver suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't have a .454, but my .44 SRH is buzzed to 2.5" and recoil (once I figured the correct way to hold onto it) is almost pleasant. I shot 125 rounds yesterday with no ill effect. There are also about 5 others in the area with the same work done on their .454 SRH's and they have no complaints as to recoil with full house loads. with .45 colt standard loadings recoil should not be any more than a .45 acp handgun.

I say the recoil is almost pleasant, I am actually fast becoming addicted to shooting it. It is a blast to unload...I can't describe it fully, but I love shooting it and was, for a brief moment, contemplating a .454 version.

A new field gun.... in Texas? I'd say that a double action 357 would be a good choice. The Trackers from Taurus are nice (I got one in Titanium that's really light and tough).

Or, something in 41 mag might be nice.....

GP100. Why?

Field gun use means you'll eventually dump you and the gun in the mud/sand/water/whatever. When this happens that gun strips down quick and easy with just a pocket sized flatbit screwdriver. I good squirting off with a 3-in-1 oil like c.l.p. and you're back in business for the day.

And a good 180gr loading should have all the horsepower you need in that area of the country.

I agree with Ben..

Unless your hunting something big and nasty, or worried about bigfoot, your best off with a .357...

Or, if your like me, .44 mags are just to damn fun to not get more.
