Suggestions for a .22 Revolver to look for?

Hi all. What are some of the better used .22's to look for outside of the obvious ones like Colt, SW and Ruger? Any sleepers out there? Thank you.

If you are looking for used, and not a smith or Ruger, take a look at H&R. Lots of quality 22 models at good prices

I got 2 wheelgun rimfires that I love. I picked up a S&W 617 10 shot on trade a few months back and a 15 year old Rough Rider. I like both for what they are and don't try to compare them to each other since they are so different. I used my 617 to mirror my 629 as close as realistically possible. Its nice to have a rimfire I can use to practice with vs having to use my .44mag all the time.

Rossi 511

The Rossi 511 is one gun I own that's a true sleeper,,,
It's almost an identical copy of a S&W Model 63.

Here it is compared side-by side with my Model 63.

Not the finest gun in the world as far as finish goes,,,
But it shoots well and is accurate enough for me.

Ruger SP101 with four inch barrel. I saw a new one in a gun shop recently, and it seemed really nice.

Charter Arms Target Pathfinder,,,

Charter Arms Target Pathfinder,,,
I bought one about 5 months ago for a gift,,,
The trouble with the gun is I like it and may keep it myself.

Nope, Sarah will be getting this gun,,,
Just as soon as I make an OSU Cowboys rig for it.

Here it is in a side-by-side comparison with a nickel plated S&W Model 34.

The finish is matte stainless steel,,,
That decision was probably a cost-cutting measure,,,
So it's not as shiny as most stainless steel handguns out there.

I wasn't prepared for the gritty trigger pull it had,,,
But notice I used the word "had" because it's smoothing out with use.

The only real bad thing is the front sight,,,
It's that dull stainless finish and it disappears on you,,,
But a teeny amount of orange sight paint alleviated that one problem.

The nicest thing about it is that it's very inexpensive,,,
I paid $348.00 for mine just a few months ago,,,
That was a brand new in the box gun.

If you can find one to handle,,,
You just might be surprised as I was.

Rossi has a recent model R98 Plinker which lists for $399. Comes in 2, 4, or 6" barrel. Not too many reports on this one yet but the price is right.

Not to put any other guns down... but if money are no object (within a reason) and double action is needed why settle for anything other than S&W K22/ Model 17? Used one in good condition can be found on Gunbroker in the neighborhood of $550 plus shipping.

The obvious ones are the best ones overall in my opinion. "Sleeper".... under valued (cost) for the quality relative to other guns of similar manufacture....

The Colt Trooper (original one) was one that was undervalued for years in 22LR. They still aren't priced really high relative to other Colt branded DA 22 revolvers unless you are looking at a pristine one. Most of the ones you see are in the 95% finish area and show holster wear. The Official Police is another that you can find for $500 or so. But you can buy a new Ruger SP-101 for that.

I would look at Charter Arms, Rossi, H&R, Hi Standard although there were 22 offerings form Astra, Arimius, Llama and others in days gone by. H&R's have been getting more attention of late and the prices have climbed due to the pricing on new DA revolvers.

Which ever brand and model you select, I suggest that you get one with fully adjustable sights. Its nice to be able to shoot different bullet weights. Just adjust the sight and you are good to go!

I'd add that the smoothest most accurate revolver I've ever had was the Colt Officers Model Match in 22lr.
I regret losing her.

I think it's worth the extra dollars for a S&W K-22, Model 17 or Model 18. The current models 63 and 617 should be considered as well.

If you could get a good price on a Freedom Arms Single Action 22, with an extra 22 WMR cylinder --- New ones cost about $1,900.

Rossi M511. Great gun. Had one. Only reason I sold it was lack of parts availability scared me. Not an issue for most folks, as it probably won't break anyway.

Taurus M94. Have one (5" barrel). Great gun, but heavy trigger in DA. Extremely accurate. Some have had issues with the transfer bar breaking, but I have had no issues after 1000+ rounds (maybe there was a bad batch of transfer bars). Inexpensive. I paid $339, but have seen it on sale for $299.

Rossi R98 plinker. Read good things about it. Looks great. I would buy one if I could get one here in CA.

Ruger SP101 (newer 8 shot) model. Have one. Also great, but not a sleeper. Kind of spendy, but excellent fit and finish. Actually not quite as accurate as my M94 Taurus.

On one end...Dan Wesson. About the best 22 revolver I ever shot.

On the other end. High Standard Sentinel. Inexpensive, but not bad at all.
