I would like to some opinions on a comfortable holster rig for the super blackhawk. It will be mostly used for hunting purposes. Are there some good cowboy style rigs that would also double for hunting?Any opinions would be appreciated. It has the 45/8 bbl,so i won,t be puting a scope on it.

357Shooter,

There are plenty of cowboy rigs you can buy, from simple loop holsters (i.e. a loop holds the holster to a rear flap that goes behind the belt -- see any John Wayne movie) to the "Hollywood" gunfighter drop-shank holsters.

But it depends on what kind of hunting you're doing and what weather and/or abuse you and your gun expect to encounter. If you'll be hunting in cold, snowy weather, wet weather or beating through the bramble bushes, you might want a replica Calvary holster with a full flap to protect the gun.

Others can give you links to those kinds of holsters.
A good place to start would be The Holster Society.

BTW: if you'll be hunting in the wet/snow be sure your holster has at least a drainage hole at the bottom of the holster.

I couldn't find a cavalry style holster for my Super Redhawk, . . . so I made one. Took most of 2 days work, . . . well worth it as it keeps my Ruger dry, yet available.

If you are a hunter (and I'll get screamed at for this) you have no control of the weather you shoot in, . . . unlike the target folks :D .

Therefore, you really do need a holster either inside your outer hunting garment (could then be a concealed carry, . . . check your state laws) or one that affords some protection from the elements.

May God bless,
Dwight
