Sudden "NOTCH" in Feed-Ramp??

I hope this is the proper sub-forum for this...?

Beginning to wonder if I made a mistake by purchasing this Kel Tec gang.

It "appears" (to me), that after less than 100 rounds fired through this little PF-9, as if the BOTTOM of the feed-ramp has been been "dented" (for lack of a better word).

I had gotten an FTF last time I shot, just a few days ago, and was less than thrilled by it, but didn't give it too much thought at the time.

So then today, after my first four, or five shots, I began getting them on every other round (total of 5 or 6 in 16 rounds fired).

So I take the thing apart, and it looks to me as if a "groove" has been worn into the bottom of the feed-ramp??? Just all of a sudden like!!!

I'll let the pics tell the story.

I have to apologize for the poor quality of my pics ... this cam does pretty nice work on further distanced shots, but I just don't see ANY way to adjust up-close/zoom focus on this cheap (uh, inexpensive) little digi-cam of mine...?

PS ~ Sorry I couldn't show more photos but only allowed three at a time here (though could post more in a reply to someones request) - I simply picked-out three quick ones as I am pressed for time at the moment. I turned the barrel to take pics from different angles hoping the light would help to "illuminate" the problem...and I have about seven more pics if anyone thinks it might help to show the problem more clearly...?

I'm not much of a link clicker,so I did not look.
I will tell you I messed up the feed ramp of an alloy framed
PA-63 (walther pp clone) in 9x18 Makarov by shooting steel cased ammo.A steel case mouth will cut an alloy feed ramp.

Thanks for the reply - I had shot about 25-30 rounds of Winchester White Box through this pistol, and then I bought an "off-brand" (which is brass-cased), because my only other choice that day was Russian "Brown Bear".

I shot exactly 31 rounds of this "Orange Box" (American made, brass-cased).

Maybe these pics (of the brand of ammo) will show without you having to click on them (?). Some times that seems to happen (images instead of links). Fingers crossed......

The feed ramp is perfectly normal. That’s all part of the break in period, in which we recommend firing about 200 rounds (at least 150) through it to make sure everything working and won’t cause any jams. The FTFs could be due to the firing pin hole needing to be chamfered a bit. In that case, you can always return just the slide and barrel to us and while it’s here for the FTFs, we can check the barrel at the same time and test fire it before we return it to you. If you’d like to do this, we’ll also need a note stating your Name, Return Address, Phone Number, E-Mail Address, Model, Caliber, Serial Number, Brand and Type of Ammunitions used and difficulty experienced. No return authorization number is required. It’ll take a couple weeks for this, but we’ll return it just as fast as possible. Our address is below.

But now, Today, I got some better quality ammo -> Speer 124gr +P Gold Dot Hollow Points - - - I fired eight, and all eight fired perfectly.

There should be a setting on your camera for shooting "Macro" photos. This is for the up close and personal type pictures.

Pictographically, it will be portrayed as a flower, almost universally.

When you get that pictograph in your viewer, you're in MACRO setting. The close up images will be much more clear.

100 rounds to do all that denting would worry me. ive seen ramps turn semi flat with low degree of angle that still feeds.

id still probably call the company maker.

HSM used to make some new-manufacture ammunition, but nearly everything now is commercial reloads. I've never had an issue with them.


It sounds like your pistol just doesn't like that ammunition... or you were limp-wristing it, using a different grip method, of interrupting slide cycling with part of your hand. (None of those are uncommon during the "learning curve" new guns.)

Copper, lead and brass will not "dent" or "wear" a fairly substantial chunk of steel like that.
Looks as if they made a change to the design of the feed ramp somewhere along the way.

I have shot a fair bit of HSM ammo without any issues (just bought 1000 rounds of 10mm).

Just shoot it, and once you find some ammo it likes, stick with that.

A bit blurry STILL `cause I just got this camera and still learning how to use it - but these are better than the others...

Lets see if I can do any better....

I supppose not...I need to learn this camera better...I'll go ahead and attach a pic I took earlier, showing a Hollow Point that gobbled-up a chunk of plywood, (and "bounced-off" the target), but at least shows that the camera, and I, are "capable", once we get to know each other - hah.

I concur. Looking at the photo of new and old one can see that both were manufactured with different shapes at the feed ramps.
I think the OP is looking for a problem that does not exist.
