You know, I'm no spring chicken--actually I'll be 50 in three months. I am a salesman in the pharmaceutical industry. I have three kids...two in college, one in high school. My wife is an elementary teacher and gourmet cook. Handguns are my past-time, my hobby, and my passion. I click on "The Firing Line" every evening, along with "Glock Talk", KTOG, and a number of other forums. Since I bought a computer five years ago, I've learned more about guns, ammo, and everything gun-related that I could EVER read about in any book, magazine, or catalog. Personal opinions are invaluable to me. But, one thing I am getting very fatigued with is the word "SUCKS".
Do you people who use this word so freely ever wonder what it REALLY means? Yesterday, a high school kid cut me off in the left lane so he could beat a yellow light. He hit the brakes, and I almost rear-ended him. I honked. He fingered me. HE FINGERED ME. He didn't know WHO I was...if I was a crazy person...or maybe someone who would calmly get out of the car and beat him to a pulp. He just shot me the bird, and when he did, the blood shot to my head. In my high school days, if you fingered someone, you'd better be ready to FIGHT. Again, back to my high school days, if you told someone "you suck", that meant you were someone who "sucked ____s". You were a "homo", a "fag"--just watch the first ten minutes or so of "Full Metal Jacket" where the drill seargent meets his new recruits, and you can get the picture. "SUCK" was a very offensive dirty word, and if someone mumbled it in sentence with your name in it, you BETTER beat the crap out of them.
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone...but "The Firing Line" is about as good as it gets to keep me up to date on the things I need to know regarding my handguns and handgun interests.
"SUCKS" just turns me off. When I see that word, it makes me think of the teeny-bopper that cut me off at the yellow light...or the kid I pounded in high school who dared to have the guts to insult me in the most severe way.
My apologies--had to get this off my chest.
