I had been meaning to share this with y'all, but it slipped my mind up until now.
While at the Eastman gun show in Gwinett County (North of Atlanta) this weekend, I gave my girlfriend a brief lesson on the evils of gun regulations.
I have accepted the many weird opinions concerning RKBA that my girlfriend has.
I have accepted that she will always look at a gun that is on "the list."
I have accepted that she will always find the priciest guns in the display.
I have accepted that the most important characteristic of a gun are its looks.
I have accepted that she feels she can comply with the law by carrying seperately locked ammunition and gun in her car (out of reach) and have enough time to unlock both, load said firearm and use it for defensive purposes.
HOWEVER, fighting one battle at a time, I have opened another door of thought for her. Guy #1 was about to enter the gun show with a nice rifle hanging on his shoulder and passed Guy #2 leavin' the show. Guy #2 leavin' the show passed Guy #1, did a double-take, and stopped.
Guy #2, "Whatcha' got there?"
Guy #1, "Ahh.. and old Winchester .308 I don't shoot much.."
Guy #2, "What do ya want for it?"
Guy #1, "Well, I was lookin to get..........."
You get the point. Noticing that my girlfriend paid a little bit more attention to the conversation than usual, I asked her if she knew what was going on between those two. She looked at me like I was a dummy.. ..like she usually does when she thinks I'm insulting her intelligence. Rather than drag it out of her, I acknowledged what she probably already knew by indicating that it was a [possible] personal sale between two individuals. She nodded in agreement and allowed me to continue. I told her that several individuals "up North" thought that this type of private sale between two individuals should be regulated so that the goverment could give their [dis]approval and get their "cut." After a quick second to think about it, the look on her face was priceless. I didn't have to say anything else, for my simple message "hit home."
One day at a time.. one day at a time.
