Styer M series

Hello.
I am considering aquiring a Styer M series 9mm. Is there anyone here that has any experience with this model? Is it accurate? Robust? Corrosion resistant? Reliable?

I realy like the ergonomics of this gun. I know Styer makes a quality rifle, but I have had no experience with their pistols, and any information will be very helpful.

Thanks.

Steyr pistols are excellent, I have owned at least one since 1985. I have the S version in 9mm. The M does seem a bit large for a 9mm that only holds 10 rounds, hence my decision to go with the S model. Even it is thick, but that is because the original design was for a .45 ACP. The first M series pistols had triggers that were too heavy. It was made that way to protect Steyr from litigation for too light a trigger pull, but they went overboard. If you are buying a Steyr and it is new the trigger problem will have been corrected. It is relatively easy to tell if the trigger is messed up, it will have an 8lb pull.

I've got an M40, the previous owner sent it back to Steyr for the trigger upgrade and it has a nice trigger.

My overall impression is that it's a slightly better built, slightly more ergonomics Glock.

/me runs and hides from all the Glock fanatics :p

I have an M9 with the newer / lighter trigger. The trigger is short and very sweet. The pistol points well, and the felt recoil is very light. The sights are a little odd, but they work well. The only downside is the factory 10 rounder magazines, but there are other hi cap magazines that can be modified to work in the Steyr M9. Overall, I'd rate it better than the glock in sights, trigger, and in grip feel, but to each his own. If you find a decent price on one, I'd definately get it.

My biggest complaint with Steyr pistols is that there are no hi-caps. I honestly could not see myself buying a 9mm with 10+1 rnds. Now, the .40 S&W might be a little more practical. Just to let you know, I went with the Glock.

There are Hi Capacity mags for the Steyr, they are just LE only right now (isn't that law supposed to sunset soon?)

The M-40 Hi Cap is only 12 rounds (I think the 9mm and .357sig are 14 rounds).

I forgot to mention the sights, at first I was unsure if I'd like them but after burning through a few boxes of ammo with them I find that I like them. They aquire quite quickly ;).

Hey yall,
I went ahead and got the Styer, took it home, and shot up a box of Win. white box. It groups a little low and left, but that is either me not being used to the grip angle, (I am used to Glocks) or the sights themselves. I will probably just drift the front sight to compensate.

Overall, I am impressed with the shooting qualities of thes gun. It's recoil is nill, and the sight picture is fast. The lack of hi-caps is a non issue to me, sure it would be cool, but 10+1 of anything above .380 is enough for me.

The only concern I have is the availability of spare parts, and the company's apparent trouble. With the quality of the gun, however, I think this will be a moot point (knock on wood). Anyone know where to get cheap spare mags?

Thanks for the responses :D
