STUPID victim

Check this. A 17 y/o student, Deshawn Hull was shot Monday. He refused to cooperate with two armed street criminals who wanted his money and his jeans. This was at a Charlotte, NC bus stop. One robber shot into the ground and made the demands. Deshawn is not too bright from what I gather. The AP quotes him as follows; "I didn't think nothing of it. I took it he was just shooting to be shooting" Hull continued. "I didn't think he was going to shoot me at all." BTW, the jeans Deshawn wouldn't give up, paramedics ripped and cut and tore them up to treat Deshawns wounds. You CANNOT make this stuff up!

Typical deer in the headlights victim mentality.

After all the negative posts on this forum about the stupidity of just complying with bad guys as suggested by various government and law enforcement agencies, Hull doesn't comply and instead of saluting him for defiance, he gets called stupid.

This is yet another classic double standard.

Hull actually has a point, however. If the bad guy simply shot into the ground, he was actually demonstrating an unwillingness to shoot Hull, or he would have simply shot Hull outright. It is akin to a mock charge done by many animals (including humans), but with humans, the term is saber rattling.

If all a stickup man wants is my wallet and my pants then he can have them! It CAN'T be worth getting shot.

IF that's all the thug wants, you're right.

How do you know that's all he wants?

Me, I'm not psychic. I figure anyone sticking a gun in my face and threatening me with violence, probably means to commit violence. If he didn't mean to commit violence, he wouldn't have brought a gun.

That doesn't mean I'd shoot as a first resort. It simply means that I'm not going to complacently figure I'm "safe" as long as I comply with his demands.

What Double Naught said.

This guy took his cards and played 'em. Looks to me like he won....and I gotta give him benefit of the doubt over the same News Media that so many decry when such Talking Heads exclaim, "It's only property. Just comply."

"Ahhhhh, just dumb luck", says some. "Why, I woulda played those cards to hero status."

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.
Looks to me like Ole Deshawn saw the Elephant and aquitted himself pretty OK. I'll not question his understanding, upbringing or intelligence. I'll just observe that he did, unarmed, what many of us would consider heroic only if we were wearing a gun.

Good on ya, Deshawn. You won.

Think about it.

Agreed. Young Mr.Hull is a hero in my book. I have a great deal of admiration for anyone who stand's up for themselves;especially under the threat of death. And, I would consider it an honor if he would allow me to purchase him a new pair of jeans. Even if he want's a pair of $180.00 DIESELS®...

"Millions for defense, not one cent for tribute"
- Jefferson

Seems like Hull lived by the idea behind a quote - not just added one as his sig line.

one question. if i do want to comply, how do i give him my pants and keep this kimber thats IWB?

The Ten Rules of Chivalry:
1. Thou shalt believe all the church teaches and observe all its directions
2. Thou shalt defend the church
3. Thou shalt respect all weaknesses and shalt constitute thyself the defender of them
4. Thou shalt love the country in which thou wast born
5. Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy
6. Thou shalt make war against the Infidel without cessation and without mercy
7. Thou shalt perform scrupulosuly the fuedal duties, if they be not contrary to the laws of God
8. Thou shalt never lie and remain faithful to thy pledged word
9. Thou shalt be generous and give largesse to everyone
10. Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and Good and the foe of Injustice and Evil

I came across these rules of chivalry and rules 5 & 10 seem to have been up held pretty well by Deshawn in this instance. In my opinion stupidity only applies in this case to those who thought it feasible to risk robbing another at gun point for the measly gain of a pair of pants and the possibility of few dollars in the pockets. To face the threat of serious harm and in spite of it, deny those who would do you wrong, simply because what they are doing is not right, is admirable. Seems to me his defiance embodies the sprit of Molon Labe.
