I have read online that the buttstocks on Round Barrel Rossi 92's and Rossi Ranch Hands are interchangeable. I have also read how some people in SBR legal states have considered paying the ATF $200 and buying a full size 92 stock from Rossi to put on their Ranch-Hand to make it an SBR with a 12" barrel.
That got me thinking about doing the reverse.... Putting a Ranch Hand stock on a 16" Rossi rifle. I believe it would be about 28" long so it should be legal.
However, the question then is what would be the point of doing so?
I can think of a few (minor) benefits:
In states where handguns are more heavily regulated this would be a poor-mans Ranch Hand.
It could save some people a little money... If you wanted a very compact "rifle" for car or motorcycle carry (or similar use), but also wanted a normal rifle for hunting or target shooting you could do this and only have to buy 1 gun instead of two.
No steel butt-plate bruising your shoulder when you fire those super-hot .45 colt rounds.
Might be fun?
I know it is basically a stupid idea, but it might be fun to shoot that way on occasion without buying two guns, or having to borrow someone else's Ranch Hand. They only question left is how much would it run you for the butt-stock? If it isn't fairly cheap then it wouldn't be worth it just to have a little fun, though it might make more sense for some of the other reasons.
