Student stabs 5 at Canadian High School

What was the name of that catchy little tune…?

“Blame it on Canada! Blame it on Canada!”

(No offense intended to our Canadian brothers-in-arms.)

I think that NICS checks will be instituted in every knife shop, and every knife department in a dept store. Children under 21 will not be allowed into such areas/stores. Fingerprinting/photographing of all kitchen knife buyers will be instituted.

You'll need a KOID card to buy a kitchen knife or knife sharpener. All knives will be anchored by 3" wide x 18" long steel chains to a 40lb. steel weight. This will ensure that no "fast moves" with knives will be possible, nor will infamous "drive-by knifings". Also, said knives will thereby not be "concealable" upon the person.

Detaching a kitchen knife from its chain/weight will be punishable by a mandatory 10 year sentence in a federal prison. All kitchen knives must be locked in a secure container when being transported, and must be kept out of a car's passenger compartment. Effective immediately, "Child safety locks" must be sold with all knives, and "smart knives" must be marketed within the next 3 years. (These knives will have a combination or key mechanism which must be disabled before the cutting surface becomes "active".)

Electric kitchen knives will be banned, as they are "fully automatic", and are also considered "assault knives". (Turkey carving must, from this point forward, be done with a blade not more than 4" in length.)

Interstate transportation of kitchen knives will be regulated by the BATFK, and you can only transfer ownership of a knife via FKL dealer. Kitchen knives are to be immediately outlawed in Washington D.C. and New York City. There will be an "amnesty period", during which time all kitchen knives in the U.S. must be registered, again with the BATFK.

Sound ridiculous? This is just about the CURRENT state of affairs for gun owners in the U.S.

Think about it...

If this happened anything like it does in the States, this is how it went down:

Some coward gangster punks were harassing this guy for weeks. They said they were going to "kick his ass" etc. He told teachers about it or his parents and they did nothing....or, he did not tell anyone because he knew they would do nothing and it would make things worse.
So, he thought about the fact that these guys were too cowardly to take him one on one, he knew he would get jumped by several of them and possibly beaten seriously. He armed himself. He grabbed a kitchen knife when at home, knowing he could ward off multiple people jumping him and keep them at bay by stabbing or slashing at them as they came at him.
They indeed jumped him as promised, and no one protected him at the school, and he defended himself and warded them off with the knife.

But, the news makes it sound like he went nuts and just started cutting people.....yet he killed no one. Sounds to me like self defense, otherwise there would be dead people.
That is just my rendition of what I guess went down. The news makes it sound like mass violence, trying to play off the school violence thing, but it sounds like self defense to me.
Thank God it was not a gun...not today of all days.

Cassandra:

I agree that this is an important factor. The concept of bullying as a contributing factor to Columbine was explored at length on Slashdot ("News for nerds. Stuff that matters.").

Also, most of the recent school shootings in the news have been perpetrated by kids on prescription pychoactive drugs like Ritalin and Prozac. One of the Columbine kids is included, as well as many of the others. Jerry Pournelle has the best commentary I've seen on the drugging of kids like this:
quote:
Well, I have less expertise on ADD than "dyslexia" simply because it hardly existed when we were active in correcting "learning problems" (which now seem to be "learning disorders"). So far as I can tell, a great number of the cases of ADD translate into "In school while being a normal boy", i.e., "we're having trouble teaching this kid self-control, we're not allowed to whack him a few as they did to you when you were an unruly kid in Capleville, so we are going to drug hell out of him."[/quote]

I saw it while chaperoning some overnight school trips, where it became obvious that the main reason the school nurse was along was to administer this huge pharmacopia to the kids. First aid was a distant second as a reason for her to come.

This overmedication of our kids is another main contributing factor.

These stories don't help us. The antis would instantly say, "If this was the US, he would have had a gun and they all would have died!"
