Stuck Smudges

I've got a Kimber pistol, and have a couple smudges (I think from fingerprints) that won't come off of the barrel. Doesn't really impact anything except aesthetics, but I'm just wondering if there's a way to get them off.

I think the marks are rust.
You can try the gel that eats rust to remove it or maybe a bronze brush to brush off the rust. Do not use sand paper or polishing compound. Avoid removing more metal than necessary. Bronze brush is hard enough to remove just the rust.
FP10 oil seems to hide the marks well, too.

You dont say what the finish is.

If the gun is blued, dont use rust removing gels, or anything like that, as "bluing" is simply a form of rust itself, and will be removed by the gels.

If it is blued, the simplest and least damaging will probably be 000 or 0000 steel wool with some oil on it, and lightly rubbing on and around the spot. Dont get heavy handed though.
