Stuck rear sight screw on 686

I want to remove the rear sight on my S&W 686, but the main screw is being uncooperative. I wrapped the gun in a towel, put it in a vice and went to town with a flat-head screwdriver. I only managed to begin stripping the screw.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with this screw?

Since you've already damaged it, STOP, before you make it so bad it has to be drilled out.

Take it to a gunsmith and have him extract it.
You're at the point right now where you're just about to do permanent damage to the gun and/or sight.
Let a pro fix it.

Yeah, I was afraid of it coming to that, which is why I stopped when I did. Guess I need to look for a gunsmith, all for a silly little flat-head screw
