Stubborn rubber grip removal?

I have a black rubber Pachmayr grip on my stainless Dan Wesson revolver. It's been on for 20+ years.

Yesterday I tried to remove it to put on a wooden grip for a while, and it will not budge. I did remove the screw, and I've tried spraying it with penetrating oil, it's soaking now. I've pulled, twisted, got my fingers under the top edge. If I pry much harder, it is going to tear, and I really dont want to ruin it or cut it off if I don't have to. It must be galded to the metal somehow.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any suggestions?

I've used hot water, not boiling, to remove rubber grips...not the whole pistol mind you, just the butt. The rubber will expand before the steel, and it loosens any gunk that might be holding it.

Just make sure everything is dried off and re-oiled before installing new grips...hair dryer might be worth a try 1st, never tried that one.

Ahhhhh! Thank you so much Silent. 5 minutes in the bathroom sink and the grip is off. I got a little water down in the hammer area, but I've flushed it with good oil already. Thx again.
