Stripping Polyurethane

My wife bought me a beautiful Russian SKS for my Bday and some *&^%$#@*% guy named Bubba poly coated the stock. Anyone know how to get this crap off my rifle without destroying the highlights in the wood???

Get some Citristrip at WalMart or Home Depot. Best stuff I have ever used. It removes just about anything you will find, even epoxy finishes.

I second that motion on the Citrustrip. I've worked in the painting business a bit over the years and have used some pretty knarly chemicals to remove poly finishes. Citrustrip gets the job done just as well, is affordable, and is much safer and less toxic. Say goodbye to methylene choride and keytone. Buy the Citrustrip and just make sure you let it sit long enough (follow directions on can). I recently stripped a 25 year old stock and the finish came off with a gentle scraping from a plastic putty knife. The whole process took 1.5 hours. I like the spray can option for small jobs. You should still wear heavy rubber gloves for the job.
