Did Brady have any effect on the "Street Sweeper's" legality?

Now that the Brady thing is "shot down"...

Is the "Street Sweeper" legal again?

If not... what is the next best thing that is legal...?
 
The Street Sweeper and Striker shotgun are classed as destructive devices. The next best thing I would have to say is putting magazine tube extensions on any semi auto or pump shotgun that can take them. I myself like the look of the Knoxx 10 round drum magazine kit for the Mossberg 500. Don't have it, but sure would love to.

When it comes out you can expect the hoplophobes to rend their garments in paroxysms of anguish and demand that it be classified as a destructive device. Personally, I think it's way cool and would love to have one.

Why?
Is it simply because of the extra ammo?
How do they get away with that?
Ammo limitations are dead aren't they?

There will not be a semiauto version because it would probably be ruled a destructive device.

Although the AWB is dead in most states, the Streetsweeper et al is a destructive device under the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 said:
4) The term "destructive device" means--

...

(B) any type of weapon (other than a shotgun or a shotgun shell which
the Secretary finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable
for sporting purposes) by whatever name known which will, or which may
be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an
explosive or other propellant, and which has any barrel with a bore of
more than one-half inch in diameter; and

So, in other words, any shotgun with a bore over .50 cal (read: anything shotgun bigger than a .410) that the Secretary finds "unsporting" is a DD.

Long story short, the Streetsweeper et al are DD's because they are considered "unsporting". The ruling said that they are non sporting because they are heavy and wide, have high capacity, a folding stock and two pistol grips, look scary, and important for now, are more or less semiautomatic.

They aren't in the habit of declaring pump actions non sporting, but really, there's no reason they can't. We just have to hope they won't.

Stinks I know. I wanted one myself but never got one & now it's too late. According to the official Knoxx website, it was because they had trouble getting the parts to make it. I don't buy it. I think it was a lot of hassle from the anti's that made them stop making it.

Why does a defensive shotgun have to be "sporting"...?

It seems that these rules from 1968 are similar, if not identical, to Brady I.

Knoxx Sidewinder

Maser, V4Vendetta...I bought and installed a Sidewinder on my 590. Functioned exactly as designed, but the setup added a couple pounds and made the gun very unwieldy. I didn't like it, so I took it off and returned it to stock configuration. With the original 8-round tube, I felt the loss of 2 rounds justified easier handling.

If one of you would like to inquire about mine (not in-box of course, but 100%complete), let me know.
