Strap-on for the M1A.....

Could use some advice from anyone who has a scoped M1A. I just mounted a Tasco SS 10X42 on a McCann mount to my SA loaded M1A. I'm definately going to need a cheek piece. I'd like to hear about any good strap-on or lace on cheek pieces you guys might be using.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

MOXELY,

Brownell's sells a very nice "strap-on", that will fit almost any rifle. I have one on my PD issued sniper rifle that has held up under many adverse conditions. They are black ballistic nylon, and secure to the rifle with three velcro straps. They offer the cheek rest in three heights, 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4". I use the 3/4" on my M1A. You can also place padding underneath it to raise it further if needed. The best thing about it id you can remove it in seconds and throw it in the washer when you get it all muddy, or whatever.

Brownell's: 515-623-4000 www.brownells.com

item #'s
851-200-250 (1/4")
851-200-500 (1/2")
851-200-750 (3/4")

They retail at $45.00, and their cost is $31.43. If you don't have a Brownell's catalog, call them and get one. It's a must for a shooter.

Fulton Armory also offers cheek welds for the M1A, but I am not familiar with them.

"Strap-Ons",..."lace on cheek pieces"..."that you GUYS might be using". I'm worried about the kind of conversation that might develop here

I have to admit, the term "strap-on" really made me laugh and I had to see what they meant. :D ;)

Clean gun, dirty mind? Sorry for the non-serious reply, but I could not resist.

me no understand. what is this "strap-on" reference that has everyone all hot and bothered?

There used to be a SACC pad that was made of nylon and had velcro fittings and three foam cheek pieces for varying hieghts. Was approx $50 but was a few years ago. Looked very similar to the one Fulton Armoury sales for $60-70.

I too have something other than rifles come to mind when I hear "strap-on". I'm so bad.... :D Though thankfully I don't think of GUYS using them. Not sure why a guy would need one, come to think of it. Have seen a chick use one on a guy, but's that giving just a little too much info, I think. I'm not sure what the function of a "cheek piece" in that context might be, though. Hard belly laughing, tears are running! :)

Seriously question, though: Is there such a thing as a combo cheeck-piece & recoil pad that slips or, errrr, fastens, on?

That would be far superior to what's currently offered. A slip on recoil pad or something like the Delta cheek piece for the AR would be far more sturdy and less likely to slip around than one of those velcro-bean bag contraptions.

Hit some of the gun shows, look for anyone selling M1 or M14 parts and accessories. They will almost always have the leather raised cheek pieces that lace on. Most run about $45.00- $60.00.
