Does anybody know how the end cap of the butt stock of a Savage Axis comes off without damaging it? Would be cool to store certain small stuff (cleaning and survival, e.g.) in the obviously hollow stock...
In order to remove the recoil pad, you need to remove the back swivel stud. Once you do that, depress the tab on the top of the stock, and it should pull right out.
with just depressing the tab, it didn't work, yet the swivel stud, it was indeed.
Quite a lot of space to stuff in useful things in the butt, even if it's not made for being opened and closed on a regular basis.
No problem Simon. I spent about an hour fiddling with mine all but pulling my hair out, then I turned to YouTube to find out the answer. I had never even considered that the rear swivel would need to be removed in order to remove it seeing as it is about 2 inches forward of the end of the stock.
I removed mine to add some weight and attempt to reduce the flexing of the stock. I mixed up a batch of epoxy and lead shot to fill in the stock. Worked well on adding weight, but did not fix the stock flexing as the real issue was on the fore end. Thankfully Boyds' came to the rescue and made a stock for it, problem solved and the factory stock is now sitting in the corner.
