storing extra barrels and choke tubes

Hi all,

How would you recommend storing extra shotgun barrels and choke tubes? I've seen a few choke tube holders, but that's about it. How about something to store extra barrels? Also, when storing them, I assume they should have a thin coating of gun oil on them just like the rest of the shotgun, right?

I don't have extra barrels to store but I would imagine it would be the same as a gun. Cleaned very well with a light coat of oil. When my guns are in storage they also get put into one of those silicone treated gun socks. You can use them for you'r barrels too. Cheap way to protect them. Choke tubes get cleaned and stored in my choke case.

Yep

Extra barrel should go in a gun sock as KY said and chokes should have a case not only does it protect them (my mother threw a few out when i was younger) but help keeps them where you can find them. light coat of oil and i put my tubes in plastic water proof holders with a cotton ball with a little oil on it. they havent rusted or tarnished in the 3 yrs they have been in the cases.;)

Recommend?

i just went and bought one at WallYWorld-Mart for about $8.00. Name brand of a choke case is moot to me. :)

35 mm film cannisters(the plastic ones) make an inexpensive choke tube holder.Glue, tape, or velcro to keep them together!

This is what I was referring to.

Here's what I decided to do... I purchased a silicone Sack-Up gun cover to store my extra 870 barrel in. So, I just cleaned the barrel and put a nice layer of RemOil on it, slipped it into the silicone Sack-Up, and then put the whole thing back in the cardboard box the barrel came in. The box has large openings in it, so I'm not worried about the barrel "breathing". Sound like a reasonable solution?
