Stoney Point removable target knobs

I've seen these knobs advertised by Dillon in there Blue Press catalog. Has anyone tried these before ? I already have a leupold 3.5x10 on my Remington 700 VS that I pulled off of another gun. I was just wondering if they would work or should I just break down and buy the tactical scope. I hate to spend the money unless I have too.

Call Leupold or visit their website and see about having target knobs installed by the factory. You can get elevation and windage done for $80. You will have the same knobs as Leupold puts on their high priced target scopes plus if your scope had 1/2" non-clicking adjustments you'll now have 1/4" click adjustable. Can you imagine what a waste of $50 those Stoney Points would have been?

Burris quoted me $60 for installing target knobs on my Signature 8-32X44mm. They charged my VISA the $60, but didn't install the knobs. I've also been considering the Stoney Point knobs for my Burris. I've already got 1/8" clicks, so the Stoney Points will probably serve my purpose well. They're $42.99 in my Midway dealer cat. Brownell's has 'em for about the same price, but doesn't carry the knobs for Burris scopes ,yet. Midway will carry the Burris knobs in January.

Just to reiterate a point, if you have a Leupold then use their factory service for warranty purposes. These other options that save $10-30 are not going to be worth it if your warranty is voided. Besides, Leupold quality is much better than most aftermarket products. Premier Recticles, from what I've heard, has a fine reputation but again, you'd probably void the warranty on your Leupold.

Leupold WILL honor their warranty if you send a scope to Premier. That is who makes their reticles. I've had 2 scopes sent to Premier to have the 1/4" knobs put on. Got both of them back well before they said it would be.

Considering a power boost to one of my MK4's. They offer that service also.

1st rate company.

Thank you for the information guys. I will call both Leupold and Premier tomorrow and get some more info. I will find out if Leupold sends there scopes to Premier to be worked on or they do the work themselves. I will also ask about the warranty issue. I certainly would not take the chance of voiding my warranty on my scope but if they ship the work to Premier to be done. I might as well send it directly there myself.

If we are only talking about a few dollars which it looks like we are. I will probably not take the chance and send it to Leupold if they do the work on site. I checked both web sites and was very impressed with what my options are.

Thanks again guys for the information.

Hi all

I have several scopes with factory knobs on them and several with the Stoney Point knobs. I prefer the Stoney point knobs.

Generally, the SP knobs are lower in profile than the factory knobs ( either Leupold, Burris, or Nightforce)
and are just as easy to use. They do NOT change your click value as do factory knobs ( like going from 1/4 MOA to 1/8 MOA clicks) but for most applications, they work great.
I can see no reason they would void any warranties as they change nothing about the scope. You just remove the cap and install as directed.

I generally use just one for an elevation knob and call it good. They are a terrific product.

Hola!

--I asked this very question some time ago; see http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=15936

I have a Leupold 3.5-10x40 and at the time I bought it, the same scope with target knobs was available for $40.00 more, yet, I didn't get the target knobs because the knobs were just too big; practically, they felt unwieldy and aesthetically they were ugly due to their extreme size.

Although I don't consider the Stoney Points perfect (there seems to be an occasional QA issue, like a bad batch escaped the lab or something), I am generally quite happy with them since they offer the convenience of a target knob without the large profile of the Leupold target knobs.

...another by-product of the Stoney Points is that I now have the option of having the regular, "no knob"-look as well as a "target-like knob"-look whenever I want AND with the Stoney Points attached, I don't have to mess with any dust covers, ha-ha!

Lastly, keep in mind that I am totally new to long guns and that I know nothing --but, I *know* that I know nothing!

They charged you, and you didn't squawk??? Why didn't you send it back?

John,

I didn't send it back, because they'd kept it five or six weeks, just to fix the Posi-Lok and install the knobs. I'm glad now that I didn't send it back, as I think that I'll like the Stoney Point knobs better. I already have 1/8" knobs, so the only thing that I'd gain for the $60, plus loss of use, would be the configuration of the knobs. With the S.P. knobs, I can change back to low knobs with cover whenever I like. (And, I'm only paying $43, shipped, for the S.P. knobs.)

Hopefully, they'll actually credit my VISA account, as they promised me they would two weeks ago. (Hasn't shown up yet.)

On a positive note, the Burris people were extremely nice, and the scope is of outstanding quality.
