Stoeger coach guns.

I've heard that they are low quality. Is that true? How long do they last if you take care of them?

I know that the best SxS are over $1000 & that's too much for me. The Stoeger is the only one I could afford but If it's junk, I guess I'll just have to get a pump.

I like mine. I bought mine a few years ago and have not had any problems with it at all. I always wanted a short handy "sawed off" shotgun and this one fit the bill right out of the box. I've shot a few cly birds with it and it seeems to shoot where it looks. With slugs it is very well regulated for me. I've shot clay birds on the berm at about 50 yards and been very plesed with the results. For the price I think you'll like it. Just takes a bit of wearing in to loosen it up enough not to be stiff. :)
 
Someone may have to correct me on this, but isn't Stoeger made by Benelli? No experience in them myself but I can't imagine anything Benelli touches would be low-quality.
 
IN terms of quality, how high is high and how low is low? What are the demands you will be putting on it?
My wife and I own two of them and we each shoot 120-150 rounds a month through each of them. The shooting we do is cowboy action shooting. I bought them because they are low price and we use them hard. I figured if they break, what the heck, no big loss.
We have had them three years now and not one problem. No breakage, no stoppage of any kind. I have even shot trap with it. Of course, I maintain them diligently, even to the point of cleaning them once a year, whether they need it or not.
They're not pretty and don't have the best blueing in the world, but you're not paying for that, either. They just take abouse and keep working. What more could you ask?
Would I buy another? Absolutely.
I do suggest for trap you use something else.

I just scrolled down and saw you had a question on the Coach gun for home defense.
If you are planning on using this for HD, you either should practice relaoding real fast or buy the pump.
The coach gun may be something out of a movie, but there is nothing like the sound of a pump being racked and they hold a lot more than two.
 
I have one, It was good right out of the box. 700 rounds later it still works fine.

look out for the remington "spartan" (aka Baikal) guns. those are relatively crappy.
 
The basic coach guns are decent enough guns, and the upscale supremes are very good guns, for less than a hundred bucks more. You get walnut instead of soft pine for the stock, a decent finish, a recoil pad, screw in chokes, and generally a smoother action.

I shoot a nickel plated supreme in SASS. I'd guess that I have 15,000 rds through it, plus the dear only knows how many dry fire sessions. I shoot fast, and I'm not gentle, but in all that, I've only had one problem with it. The extractor star broke off. Took it to my friendly local cowboy 'smith, and he welded it back together. That's about it.

That said, it's not quite so elegant as an old Ithaca, or such, let alone a fine double.

I've got a couple of SKB doubles. Very expensive. Would I be embarassed about having a Stoeger coach gun? Not for a minute! For me, it's more important to have a SxS shotgun than which brand it is. To each his own, I guess. No EBS for me.
 
Benelli does not make the Stoegers. They are made in South America by Boito I believe. For the money they are fairly decent guns.
