Stock Refinishing Question

I have a somewhat beat up Marlin laminated stock. Can you strip/sand it just like standard wood to refinish it? I have used a damp towel and iron and gotten dents out of walnut, bircb etc, just haven't had any experience with laminated wood. Excuse my ignorance
 
I'd run a little test under the buttplate , to see how the glue in the laminate reacts to the stripper . If it doesn't melt . you should be good to go .
