Hey guys.

I need help i'm chasing a stock for my rem 700 sps varmint! I really want a Mcmillan but i can't find/decide on one i like. I have only seen picture so they might look different in real life (you know how photos don't do some things justice). I really like the look of the H-S Precision PST012 (rem police stock)
but have heard mixed reviews about H-S stocks and can not find a bad word about the Mcmillan except the price but thats fair(price we pay for quality). Do Mcmillan do a similar stock. So after all that i'm interested which model Mcmillan stocks u guys would recomend/use? And maybe some photos to get a different angle/perspective and see them mounted on a rife would be cool to.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

For what it's worth, I recently put a Hogue synthetic stock on one of my rifles. It was around $250, and had an aluminum bedding channel. I don't know if they make a tactical type stock for your specific rifle, but I have seen an FN tactical with that stock - so I expect that they do have one for you. All that said, there's no way that I can say that it's as good as a McMillan stock. Maybe others can make that comparison for you.

In my opinion the Hogue, HS-Precision and some of the others are WAAAY to heavy for a standard hunting rifle. The main advantage of going with McMillan over the others is the ability to get a lighter weight stock. You can get a McMillan down to around 20 oz., vs the 48 oz. or so a Hogue will weigh.

The HS-Precision and some of the Bell and Carlson Medalist stocks with the bedding blocks installed are heavy, but would work on a varmit/tactical rifle that is already heavy and not intended to be carried for miles a day in the mountains.

Make no mistake, the McMillan is a better stock, but for your purposes I'd lean toward a $200 or so B&C. http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-553/*NEW!-Bell-&-Carlson/Detail I'd also look at one of the laminated stocks from www.boydsgunstocks.com.

I really like HS Precision. I have one on a SPS Varmint gun. Installation was simple. Made an instant change in the groups for the better. They are heavy. But Varmint guns are supposed to be heavy.

jmr40 mentioned that the Hogue stock was heavy, and he's right. It's a bit heavier than the synthetic stock the Ruger Hawkeye came with. But, the whole package is still lighter than my old Sako with walnut stock, which is my primary hunting rifle for deer and I guess is my 'standard' for rifles. And, I don't do any real long walking for hunting purposes, so weight isn't a problem for me. But as for the stock itself, it has a great feel in my hands, and has a slight palmswell at the grip, which also reminds me of the Sako. And it definitely feels more stable on the bench and has a super recoil pad. So overall, I like it a lot, and the rifle shoots great, though that might be more due to the bullet and powder combination that I finally put together than due to the stock.
