What is the best and easiest way to remove the old finish without sanding away any wood.
Many years ago I did one and used BC Tru-Oil for the finish. It worked easily and well, but I can't remember how I got the old finish off.
I don't know what it is, but it came standard on the Thompson Center Hawken rifles around 1976. Held up very well, until I ruined it with some plastic bore solvent. (That's plastic fouling, not a plastic bore ).
