Stippling aluminum

If anyone likes to make their own grips, I have pulled off some decent stippling on my 1911 grips. I'd like to share how I did it. I made the grips from templates I traced onto 1/4 aluminum, chose angles for the sides and counter bored the screw holes. For the stippling I peppered the surface with 1/8 drill bit marks(like a golf ball) then I turned my drill on a 45* angle and scratched them all together with the tip of the bit. I then die grinded it smooth with a scotchbrite disk. I clear coated them and added some gold coloured washers and stock screws. I will add pictures soon. I figured this out by accident when my bit kept slipping and It got scratched in one section. I liked the look and applied it all over.

Can't tell from the photo how the stippling came out, but we use a dremel ball head to stipple all the grips we make.
The very small ball head and a pointed tip combined give a very dense fine stippling like the European grips.

I'm sure that with carbide tips, this would work on aluminum as well.

Nicely done although not to my taste it does brighten up your pistol. I have a set of factory aluminum grips on one of my Sig P 238's, checkered and quite unique although the standard wood grips look better in my opinion. Now perhaps you would experiment with checkering aluminum. Thanks for the preview.
