STI Trojan vs.SW PC1911

Thinking of picking up another 1911 and have it down to these. I'm in MA, so options are limited. Thoughts from folks who might have or had experience with both? Which is the better option. Mainly range, and HD.

Thanks!

-- I like my 5" STI Trojan 9mm. Very good fit (frame, slide, barrel) - no rattle.
It has been reliable and accurate.
-- I also have a SS Kimber Target Custom II 9mm --- good, too but STI seems to have slightly better fit.
-- When hand cycling, the STI is slightly smoother since Kimber has the Firing pin Safety).
-- Accuracy --- about equal but I feel like I have done/do better with the STI.
-- I do not like the feel of the STI plastic trigger but that is just me being picky (so, trigger changed to solid aluminum).

No experience with S&W 1911 (do they still have the firing pin block safety?).

Hope this helps.

If I were going to get another STI Trojan it would be a .45ACP, the 9mm Trojan I have has had some problems with certain ammo, like a lot of 9mm 1911's, but it shoots beautifully now.

My SW1911 is an excellent pistol but I like the fact that the newer "E" series is a series 70, which does not have the FPB. Even though Colt is making series 80 guns with excellent triggers these days, I would still rather have a series 70 design 1911.

I'd have to saw STI. My father in law has a Trojan in 9mm and that gun just flat shoots. I'm not a fan of the S&W external extractor and all the writing they put in their guns.

Hello Miles, I've owned two Trojans, and some non-1911 Performance Center guns, but my only S&W 1911 type was a standard SW1911. Nothing wrong with the standard SW1911, but barrel/ slide/frame fit, and trigger, of the Trojans was superior. Don't know if the Kimbers are a possibility in MA., but the three 9MM, and one 38 Super, Target IIs I had over a period of several years, and a current Eclipse in 38 Super, were reliable and trouble free guns from Day-1. I agree with pilpens, while Kimber fitting was very good, the Trojans were fit just a little better. Still have one of the Trojans, and wish I had kept one of the 9MM Kimbers. Fit of my latest Kimber is on a par with the Trojan, but I don't know if that is due to improved manufacturing tolerances on Kimber's part, or just luck of the draw.
