STI LS40 / Compact 1911 grip sizes...

I want to put some bone/horn grips on my STI LS40. I don't mind doing a little fitting/trimming etc to make them fit and look nice. I was thinking about trying to modify a set of 1911 compact / officer's grips. I'm pretty sure that the STI grips are substantially smaller than the compact / officer's grips, but I don't know by how much, and I don't have an officer's model to take measurements from. The biggest concern I have is the bottom screw hole - could fall in just the wrong place. If that's the case, I may want to start with 1911 full sized grips.

Is there anyone out there that happens to have an STI LS (40 or 9) and an compact / officer's model that could let me know the dimensional differences between the grip pannels?

It is my understanding that the LS9/40 use the same size grips, and screw spacing, as the Detonics Combat Master.
The CM frame is as much shorter than a "compact" frame, as the compact is shorter than a Government/Commander frame.
I have seen pictures of CMs with cut-down Government-length grips, and the lower screw holes was not visible, but I don't recall if the grips were "magwell" style, flush with the bottom of the frame, or if they were slightly short and beveled (to remove evidence of a nearby hole).

I've been accused, just this morning, of spouting BS and not knowing what I'm talking about, so I'm sure a know-it-all will be along with correct information, soon. :)
