STI GP6 with +P and +P+ ammo

Hi everyone, I want to ask you guys about something.
Is the STI GP6 capable of shooting +P and +P+ ammo, or will I wear out the barrel?

Someone told me that it is not recomendable to use +P and +P+ ammo, or else I will wear out the barrel or even brake some parts inside the pistol, because he said it is not designed for heavy rounds.

I want to read your opinions and experiences about it.
 
My opinion is that the choice of ammo will not matter on barrel wear.
My opinion is that it ought to handle +P because European 9mm is loaded a bit hotter than US.

The fact is that there is no published standard for +P+. You don't know what you are getting. It might be 1% over +P, it might be 10% over +P, or more.
I would not pound my gun with it except maybe for some of the name brands like Federal 9BPLE or Winchester Ranger T. And only enough of that to check function and carry.
