Steyr ?

Thanks everyone for the help earlier. I'm now considering a Steyr M9. The new model has an ambi mag release. Has anyone heard ANYTHING about this gun ? I know steyr has a good reputation, but thats with rifles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Ben, they wouldn't happen to rent sigpro, hk usp9, walther p99, or steyr at Wolf Creek would they ?

Has Steyr changed the position of the mag release? All the ones I have seen have the mag release on the left side of the gun, and it is not reversible.

Yes they have. I saw it on Gunbroker.com. Then I sent an e-mail off to GSI who imports them and they confirmed it. The model is brand new. But I can't find any info on how the gun shoots, reliability, ect...

Who at GSI confirmed the change? I asked whether Steyr has changed the placement of the magazine release on the M Series pistols or the forthcoming S Series. I was told in an e-mail by Einar Hoff that "Steyr has not changed the magazine release on their pistols."

My e-mail was from Louis Guichet. He says their brand new. I specifically asked him about the M9. Even the picture shown on Gunbroker.com and a picture shown in Combat Handgus 2000 buyers guide, had the mag release on the "lefty" side (although it was in .40 s&w) but it was an M series.

I a leftie and I'm waiting to get it in a .357Sig. I assume that the M series is all the same, so that if this is true, I can get a M357 with a mag release set for a leftie?

This is the best news I've heard in a long time!!!

The ad clearly says that the mag release is ambidextrous. However, did you see the mag release in the picture? I didn't. I didn't even see the hole for it. I'm going to forward the link the GSI to see what it has to say.

If you get the chance, check out Guns 2000 buyers guide. One of the pictures on the front is of a Glock that says ported perfection. Flip towards the back to find the Steyr. You can clearly see the button on the "lefty" side. The others I've seen either have no button on that side, or a big slot on that side. In the picture it clearly looks like a button to me. Looking at the other post, I hope they've cleared up the failure to eject problem though.

I sent an e-mail with the link to GSI. Here is what Einar Hoff said:

"Steyr will not offer their pistols with an ambidextrous mag release. It was under consideration at one time. However, they changed their minds and decided not to offer this feature."
