Steyr S9

What's the status of Steyr's M and S series pistols in th USA?! If possible, please point me in the direction of their small S series (importer, manufacturer, last knowns specs, etc.). Thanks in advance.

Hey Johnny, I had one of the S9's when they first appeared. Nice gun, accurate. What was interesting is that on paper it looks closer in size to the Glock 26, however, in the flesh it is more like the Glock 19 size wise. I think there is a new importer now DSA, there are some posts around here on the topic. GSi is still receptive with respect to questions. I called them not long ago looking for an armorer's manual, and they said all parts etc. have been shipped to Dynamit Nobel. Goodluck.

Thanks, gentlemen. Sounds like the wait is still on.

Their S9 has been near the top of my list for a few months - right alongside the Glock 26. Assuming they're both about the same size, I thought the Steyr might be a nice addition one day. Disappointed to hear the S is bigger than the 26.

In addition to being not quite as small as the Glock 26, the Steyr S9 is also sort of thick for a 9mm. This, however, allows you to share holsters across calibers.

I got interested in the M40 and M9 pistols this weekend at a gun show. I just called Dynamit Nobel and DSArms a minute ago.

The Dynamit Nobel guy said they don't carry the pistols and don't offere service on them.

The DSArms guy was very friendly and well-informed. He said they were working with Steyr to start importing the pistols again, but communication has been difficult. They will be carrying the M and S series pistols eventually, but "not until 2003 at the earliest". DSArms won't carry parts or do service. Service will be provied by "Steyr USA", but it wasn't clear whether this would be a separate company or whether Dynamit Nobel would just start servicing the pistols like they do Steyr rifles.

I'm reluctant to buy a Steyr since there won't be any factory service for the near future, if ever, but I'll probably just roll the dice and hope that the pistols work okay.
