Has anyone seen the Steyr S series yet? This size makes a lot more sense if the gun's limited to 10 rounds anyway, and is handier for CCW. I assume the S has gotten the same trigger group fix as the M.
A Steyr .45 prototype will be shown at the next big Shot Show. It will feature the same ergonomics and even use standard 1911 style 8 round magazines -- or so the rumor goes.
I don't know if it will be called an L45 or an M45. Because another rumor is that they may come out with longslide target models that may be classed as the L series.
The original Steyr pistol that Wilhelm designed uses 1911 mags. That gun is still scheduled to be introduced as an M45 or L45. The 'L', of course, is 'large', you already have seen the 'M', 'medium', and 'S', 'small'. What do you suppose 'XS' is and do you want to guess on caliber?
I haven't talked to GSI regarding XS. But I'll take a wild guess that it might have to do with competition models, possibly longslides or something like that?
The xs designation is a subcompact. There was an article a while back describing the intention of a subcompact. Perhaps it will be thin. I think in concept the S is an ideal dimension with respect to glock 26/27 the S will allow you to actually grip the gun. I can't wait.
I now have seven Glocks, and love to shoot them. I take possession of my Steyr M40 on the 17th, and will shoot it on that day. If Steyr comes out with lots of variations, and if I enjoy this pistol, I may be dumping my money into Steyr pistols to add to my collection.
'XS' is 'extra small'. Think KelTec P-32 size. It will not be available in its primary caliber in the U.S. because it punches little tiny holes in soft body armor and that makes policemen mad. We will get it in other calibers.
You are correct sox. I don't have any inside scoop either, but that is what the XS is. Maybe it is bigger than a P32, but it is smaller than an S. Maybe by the time it hits the market, another couple of years, they will be molded in the U.S.?
