Steyr S-40

Anyone have information regarding this gun? How does it differ from the M series?

I searched for information with no result. Of course, as soon as I placed this post, I found the information.

The S is the compact version of the M. From searching the forum, it doesn't seem that many own these guns. Seems that folks either hate, or love the guns.

This gun was one of a handful recommended for small hands. This gun was well thought out. It also has a bit of political correctness, probably not a bad idea in this environment.

Other than the shorter bbl. & grip don't think there is any difference? The M40 is personal favorite in .40 cal outside of perhaps a BHP in .40 but the BHP is a very different pistol. We have "Old Style" IPSC around here {No comps, Race Holsters, etc.} Shot the M40 in that over the weekend and and did just as well as with the Glock 34 have put 3 cases of 9mm through. The M40 never bobbled and has great ability to keep muzzle flip to less than the Glock 23 I had along with a markedly better trigger & trigger reset. My gun is a low-serial # in the 1300's & is over a year old. The early Steyr's were supposed to have so many problems but this pistol has proven otherwise, IMO. The M40 is so tractable will surely get the M or S9 in the future. FWIW, there is a very good thread on the Steyr being well proven IPSC over @ Pistolsmith.com See: http://www.pistolsmith.com/viewtopic.php?topic=283&forum=19&9 & http://www.pistolsmith.com/viewtopic.php?topic=854&forum=22&17
