Steyr Mountain Rifle

When I was at the last NRA convention here in Arizona, I was told that the rifles had the firing pin set back so they could be dry fired but not shoot ammo. Could be the dealer where you got your rifle has done that and forgotten to reset it. Might be worth checking out.

Need more info. IIRC those have a 3 position safety. It might be something as simple as having the safety in the middle position instead of all the way forward.

Dang, a steyr costs HOW MUCH and won't fire? I call that making a remington 710 look like a browning bar safari..

Ive had an SBS lightweight in 308 for years. The 3 position safety should not be allowing the trigger to move EXCEPT in the fire position. The middle position locks the trigger/sear but allows the bolt to move. The last position locks the bolt if the bolt knob is pressed fully down.

If the safety is in the fire position and the trigger is pressed with a loaded round in the chamber i cant see why it wont go bang. Id suspect something is broken

Welcome to TFL, Boss..............

It has a three way safety on it with positions for fire, safe, and bolt lock.

In the bolt lock position, the bolt cannot be operated and can be set so that the firing pin is positioned off of the primer. (No way the gun can go off.)

Check the owner's manual for the reset procedure.
