STEYR M40 Serial Number Question

I'm interested in purchasing a new STEYR M40, but I've read a lot of the threads concerning the ejection port problem. I read that the ejection port has been beveled to 45 degrees on the new guns instead of the original 90 degrees. However, does anyone know what serial number this started with? I just want to make sure I get a "new" one and not an "old" one that I have to send back to GSI. A local dealer has an M40 for $540, but I'm not sure if it's the "new" gun with the ejection port beveling. Also, does anyone out there own one? How does it shoot? Difficulty with holster selection? Any comments would be appreciated.

Its very simple to lock the slide back and take a look at the ejection port. The new 45 degree angles would be obvious.

I haven't seen an "upgraded" M40 to this day... still seeing older M40's at gun shows with serials in the 2700's.

i heard 3000 and up are ok. however, i emailed GSI directly and they didnt know. if its local, i would just go take a look and verify it visually. supposedly the M9 does not share the ejection problem even though the design is the same. another problem with the early models is a narrow firing pin channel that leads to light strikes. not as prevalent a problem as the ejection port and you can fix it yourself by sanding the area a little.

otherwise a great gun. low bore axis = low recoil. i think the sites are great, though some ppl hate them (matter of personal preference). grip is great esp. for ppl w/small to med size hands, though it is a little smooth and not that "grippy". i personally like the safety features (again, some ppl think they are extraneous).

here is a copy of an email i got from gsi, hopefully it will answer your questions and then some:
