Damn, I love my M40, but....

Notice to All Steyr Mannlicher Customers


Dear Valued Customer,

As of today, January 21, 2002, GSI has yet to hear from Steyr Mannlicher's new management regarding future importation, distribution, and servicing of their products. Therefore, GSI must assume that we will no longer be representing Steyr Mannlicher as their U.S Importer and service center.

As a result, GSI regrets to inform you that we will no longer be able to perform free service on your Steyr Mannlicher firearm in accordance with Steyr Mannlicher's "Manufacturer's Free Service Agreement." Since Steyr Mannlicher has not, as of January 21, 2002, notified us the name and location of the new U.S. service center, we suggest you contact them directly at the following:

Wouldn't you know it. Every time I still liking something the company goes belly-up. Guess I will be one of the many pall bearers for Steyr Pistols. *sniff*

Maybe I should start liking Glock?
 
On 01/09/02 I received the following from Steyr-Mannlicher.
Thank your for your email.

Steyr Mannlicher never stopped business, only in 2001 the company got a new
owner and we had some problems with GSI, our former distributor in USA which
led to those rumors about us.

I can tell you that Steyr Mannlicher still produces the M series pistol. Our
products will be available in USA again soon via a new distributor.

the last two Shotgun News have had full page ads from Steyr saying stuff like "don't listen to rumors" I really really want the new m40 for $399 in my dealers cabinet.
 
This is good news.
GSI is the only reason that I don't have a Steyr firearm right now.
Every time I have contacted GSI with just simple questions, I was met with 2 out of three of the following:

Ignorance
Arrogance
Incompetence

To me... GSI sucked rocks. A couple of guys there were cool, but other than that, I don't care for them.

This is potentially a good move for Steyr if they can find a new US company to work with. Hey Steyr... Why don't you hook up with TFL as your distributor? And anyone with over 10,000 posts gets a free matched set of a Scout rifle and an M40!

Hey, Sprinfield took the Croat HS, maybe Kimber can get the Austrian M... of course, they'd have to double the price like Springfield did... just to stay competitive, you understand. :D

Personally relieved that the rumors seem to be just that.
 
GSI took care of my M40's trigger and ejection port and was back in my hands 2 days after I sent it in. Lucky timing, no problem with the service.
